A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
June 18, 2014
First off, I wish to thank every one of our members for their great participation in our activities in this last year. Thank you, Pam Baker; for all that you have brought to the table as our president. It is a hard act to follow!!
As your newly-elected president, let me tell you about myself. I became a member under my father’s great service to our country in the Pacific arena of WWII. He was a paratrooper who fought in Japan.
I have been a member since 2007. I have served in many different offices and look forward to working with everyone as president this year.
As an ALA unit, we are required by Congress to work with several programs and we need volunteers to be able to achieve this. This coming month we will look at different programs and ask for volunteers to chair on one to make them run smoothly. The committees are as follows:
Americanism, Auxiliary Emergency Fund, Budget, Cavalcade of Memories, Chaplain, Children and Youth, Community Service, Constitution and Bylaws, Donations, Education, Girls State, Historian, Leadership, Poppy, Public Relations, Troop Shipping, and VA & R.
We will not pick all of them, however, I sent in five reports from different areas this last year. Some can be put together if one does not take much work such as; Auxiliary Emergency Fund and Budget.
A member does not have to be chairperson of a committee. All areas are in need of volunteers so let’s get involved where we can so there is not so much work for one person. Let’s have fun in the process!!
Our next Executive Meeting is July 7th and our next General Meeting will be on July 22nd. Please bring a guest who might be interested in joining… Membership is important. The more members, the more voice that is had in Congress!!
Thank you again for having trust in me. I hope to serve our unit and our American Legion family well and this to be the best year ever for us in serving our veterans.
